The FynBloem Protea Packing Facility, designed by Cape Town based architectural Practice KUBE architecture, received a highly commended award in this year’s ‘AfriSam Sustainable Construction’ category. The project, which acts as the face of the FynBloem brand uses creative initiatives to lessen the environmental impact and increase sustainability, not only during construction but also in the everyday running of the facility. KUBE architecture recently started working on a new residence in Perth, Australia. The house is located on the beachfront in Burns Beach with uninterrupted views of the ocean to the South-West while fronting onto the pedestrian beach access way to the South-East. Cape Town architects, KUBE are pleased to announce that completion has been achieved at the Tydstroom Freezer Facility in Durbanville. The facility comprises of approximately 1000m2 of cold storage running at -20 degrees centigrade. The floor area is kept to an absolute minimum by introducing a mobile racking system. Not only does this allow the client to stack pallets six high but also reduces the floor area by 50 % compared to more conventional systems. Building costs are therefore reduced by a similar proportion, not to mention the refrigeration costs. Adjacent to the freezer is the +- 200m2 delivery and dispatch component, this being cooled to 10 degrees, balmy in comparison. Continue reading

- There is an upwards trend in the number of inquiries received regarding alteration-addition type projects, while inquiries for ‘new-builds’ remain low.
- Real estate values are still dormant and owners who bought at inflated prices have realized that to get a return on their money they need to be patient. The next rung of the real estate ladder will have to wait. Continue reading
