KUBE architecture was approached by Mouton Citrus to develop a new citrus packing facility. The architects had previously developed an affinity for the area after working on the alterations and additions to the existing Mouton packing facility, just outside Citrusdal, +/-200km from Cape Town. When the opportunity arose to develop a new green fields project, they were able to draw on their experience and knowledge of local conditions. KUBE architecture recently completed a new residence in the Waters Edge Estate Blouberg. The external architectural character was dictated by the architectural guidelines as set by the estate. A pallet of neutral tones and materials retains the focus on the scenic beauty of the area and the Atlantic ocean. Mass components establish the presence of the unit in its context while the contrasting delicate, light timber elements reiterate the humble yet hardy nature of the Cape fynbos fauna and flora.
KUBE architecture recently assisted with the realization of the Tiny Empire Co-Working Experience in the trendy East City precinct of Cape Town. Located at street level in Wolroy House, a Cape Victorian style building, the space will be co-inhabited by Tiny Empire, Mother City Hardware and Deluxe Coffee Works adding to the precinct’s reputation as the Cape Town Coffee hub. The East city precinct has silently grown in popularity with creatives and corporates alike. Earmarked by the city as a special design and development district, the Cape Town coffee capital has slowly been cultivating its culture with major role players such as Haas and the steampunk inspired Truth claiming their piece of the sidewalk. Cultural bodies such as the Cape Town City Hall, the Central Library and the District 6 Museum have been drawing locals and tourists alike to the area while the Cape Technicon has ensured that the area is fueled by a steady flow of fresh intellectual capital. Bree street and the foreshore have been taking the lion’s share of the spotlight, but competitive property prices and potential is what drew the attention of the Blend Property Group to this sector of the city.
